Sleep mask: preparation for work

How to sew a sleep mask with your own hands? In order for a sleep mask to cope with its task, it is important to choose the right materials from which it will be made.

The sleep mask is made of two or three layers. The first, front layer, can be sewn from any fabric (except the thinnest), choose the color and texture to your liking. The fabric you choose will determine whether you will need a second layer - a cushioning layer. If the face fabric allows light to pass through, you will need to make an additional layer of dense material. You can use thin padding for a mask that you will wear in a cool room.

And finally, the last bottom layer. It is this fabric that will come into contact with the skin, so it should be natural and pleasant to the touch. We recommend natural silk. In addition to the fabric, you will need about 40 cm of soft elastic, 1-1.5 cm wide. Check the length by measuring the circumference of your head and subtracting the length of the mask at the attachment point, then add 2 cm for allowances.

The sleep mask pattern is given in two versions: standard and large size. Cut out both options from paper, apply them to your face and choose the most convenient one.

So, let's learn how to sew a sleep mask with your own hands!

Uncover

Download the pattern and print both versions of the mask. Apply to your face and choose the most comfortable one. Cut out one piece from each fabric: front, inner and, if necessary, interlining. Prepare the rubber band.

Decorate the front side of the mask. In our case, stitching was done along the contours of the mask with a contrasting thread.

Pin an elastic band to the front of the mask as shown in the photo and try it on. Adjust the length of the elastic and the location of its attachment.

Pin or baste the inner part of the mask on top. The elastic will be inside the layers of fabric.

Spread the seam allowances, press and topstitch close to the edge, sewing up the open part of the seam at the same time.

Masks Master class Sewing Sleeping headband + PATTERN Lace Threads Felt

I’ve been wanting to sew a sleep mask for a long time, but I still didn’t know for whom.

The other day, my second mother (mother-in-law), in our dialogue with her, said that she could not find a mask so that she could sleep during the day. I took note of this and sewed her the mask that she so needed.

Here is my first mask:

Decorated with resin roses and a braid for curtain decoration.

I didn’t make a regular elastic band, but took a hair band - I thought it was more gentle and would not create discomfort or put pressure somewhere. And it turned out to be right, mom is very happy.

These are the bandages.

view from the back side, or rather from the peephole side))

Here is the pattern used to sew the headband))

with squares, to make it easier to decide on the size, my pattern, when enlarged, turned out to be a square equal to 1 cm

fabrics that I used + padding polyester

here is my facial tissue)))

Having cut out all the fabrics according to the pattern and also attached our bandage, in your case you can use an elastic band (fasten everything with needles), sew them from the wrong side together, while leaving a small place unsewn so that you can turn them on the face. Then sew this area carefully with invisible stitches. Iron and you can decorate.

While I was sewing a mask, my daughter was working on her teeth - as she called it “prosthetics”

Since one of my daughter's dreams is to become a dentist, this is what we bought her. Kira saw this set in the store, grabbed it and said, “Mommy, you want me to become a dentist. If yes, then buy me this set. After all, I, I am your future and life. You don’t want to be embarrassed for me when I grow up?!” Well, you can’t buy it, her argument made my jaw drop O-o.

Here he is a little creepy, according to his mother-in-law, but so cool according to his daughter

and now she is happy doing “prosthetics”))

clean the tooth with a brush

Well, uncle - don’t be afraid, I don’t bite, I’m just a doctor and I’ll do your teeth))

Thank you for stopping by to visit

Thank you for such a useful thing at this time, I take it and go to bed, well done daughter, the little man already has a dream, it’s so wonderful

Beauty, very cute

Flowers probably make it difficult to sleep on your side? I also want to sew these “curtains” for myself.

Sometimes, despite being very tired, we cannot fall asleep because of banal things - the light of streetlights, the glare of the headlights of passing cars or the bright Moon through the window, and in the morning we wake up from the bright light of the Sun (especially in summer). Sometimes for some reason you cannot turn off the light (travel, trip). But there is one simple thing that has become very popular that will help you not notice the little things that prevent you from sleeping peacefully. And no matter what is going on around you, you will sleep in complete darkness. We are talking about an eye patch, which is also called “sleep glasses” or “sleep mask.” These glasses do not allow light to pass through and will help you fall asleep in any light. It is very easy to sew such a sleep mask with your own hands.

So, you will need:

  • Strip soft fabric(inner part of glasses) - 30x15 cm;
  • Strip of decorative fabric (top of glasses) - 30x15 cm;
  • For the inside of the glasses, the fabric must be natural - flannel, chintz, cotton jersey. For the outside of the glasses, take a strip of beautiful bright fabric (this is not necessary if you are going to wear your glasses only at home, but any woman loves not only comfort, but also beauty).
  • Non-woven fabric - 30x15 cm (optional);
  • Braid, bias tape or lace for finishing - 70 cm;
  • Elastic band - 30 cm (I recommend taking an elastic band 2-3 cm wide to make the headband fit more comfortably on your head.
  • If you want to decorate the outside of the headband, then select a few beads, appliqué or embroidery of your choice.

Print out the pattern or draw your own on paper. Those with a good eye can do it without a pattern. The pattern is very approximate, but adjusting it is not at all difficult. The size of each person's head is individual, so measure the distance from temple to temple - this will be the width of your glasses.

Cut out the parts of the glasses, adding a seam allowance of 1 cm. After you have cut out the parts of the glasses from the fabric, cut out the same part from the interlining. Glue the upper part of the bandage with non-woven material so that the bandage holds its shape.

Fold both parts of the headband right sides inward and sew, leaving space on the sides where the elastic will be sewn. Trim the seam allowances to 0.5 cm, make small notches in the seam allowances so that the rounded parts of the mask turn out well. Then turn it inside out and press the seams well. Sew into side seams an elastic band. Stitch braid, lace and embellishments onto top part glasses or sew by hand.

Sleep mask pattern

The mask is a blindfold, shaped like glasses and made of light-proof fabric.

Its main advantage is the ability to give a feeling of darkness during the day, which means that even during daylight hours you can get a good night's sleep. This is especially true for those who work at night and sleep during the day.

In addition, even in the dark, various light stimuli can spoil your sleep: car headlights, illuminated advertising, lights outside the window, etc.

And according to scientists, it is sleep in the dark that is quite effective and beneficial for nervous system and for immunity.

Types of sleep masks

There are different types of sleep masks. These can be either simple, headband-like products or original masks with lace, glitter, beads, rhinestones and funny images.

They are made from various materials: cotton, linen, synthetic fabrics. Silk masks are extremely popular.

They not only help you sleep, but also prevent the appearance of wrinkles and smooth out facial wrinkles during sleep.

By the way, silk masks owe their popularity to pop and movie stars, who take especially active care of their appearance.

Various fillers are added to sleep masks, which have different effects on the sleeper. For example, a mask with cedar filler will be useful for those who suffer from hypertension or often feel tension in their eyes.

There are also masks with fillers made from lavender, cotton seeds, etc.

Please note that a sleep mask can be an excellent gift for those people who love to travel or, due to the nature of their work, are often forced to go on business trips by plane, train or other transport.

In this case, masks that do not let in daylight will help you relax and even get some sleep during your trip or flight.

DIY sleep mask

If, among all the variety presented in brick-and-mortar and online stores, you haven’t found anything suitable, or the models you like are too expensive, then you can sew a sleep mask with your own hands, coming up with your own original design.

To do this, just draw a pattern on paper, then transfer it to fabric and cut along the contour. To make the mask more beautiful, its upper part can be made from more expensive and beautiful fabric than the bottom one.

Place a non-woven pad between two layers of fabric, then trim the edges with braid, sew on elastic or satin ribbons. You can decorate a homemade mask with embroidery, beads, rhinestones, etc.

Comfort and peace during sleep are no less important for a person healthy eating, and a healthy lifestyle. But often something bothers us, unnecessary sounds or light, which makes us constantly wake up and does not give us peace. There is a solution to these problems, for example, a sleep mask will help us against excess light. With such a mask, even during the day you will not feel discomfort from excess bright light, and you will be able to enjoy a wonderful sleep.

DIY sleep mask.

Sewing a sleep mask is not a difficult task, the main thing is to do everything correctly so that it is effective and fulfills its purpose. To do this, you need to use materials that will not transmit light. Let's prepare everything we need and get started. We will use:

Cotton
. Sintepon
. Satin fabric
. Lace fabric
. Rubber
. Threads
. Ribbon
. Sheet of paper

We will also need tools, in particular - scissors, a sewing machine and a pencil.

If everything is ready, we can start manufacturing!

1. Take a sheet of paper, a pencil and start drawing a pattern. We try to draw an even pattern, the size of the mask will be 22cm. by 11cm. The type and shape of the pattern can be seen in the photo.

2. Take scissors and cut out the pattern. We take the prepared fabrics and fold them in the following order: put cotton at the very bottom, then padding polyester, satin fabric and lace at the very top. Place the pattern on top of the fabric and trace it along the fabric.

3. We fasten all the fabrics with pins and sew them on a sewing machine along the drawn lines. It turns out this:

4. Excess fabric can be trimmed. To make the edges look more beautiful, hide them under bias tape. The main part of the mask is ready.

5 . Now we need to make an elastic band to keep the mask on the head. To do this, take 80 cm of binding and fold it in half. After that, we sew it along the edges.

6. We insert 30 cm of elastic into the ribbon we received, then sew it all to the mask. Here's what happens:

7. The mask can be decorated by sewing various decorative elements to it; in our case, these are just two bows.

The mask for comfortable sleep is ready!

How to make a beautiful sleep mask?

Recently, masks have become more and more beautiful, because every person wants to stand out from others even in small things. A variety of stylish designs and embellishments are appearing on masks. VIDEO. How to make a sleep mask with your own hands?

To make one sleep mask measuring 9.5*20 cm you will need:
1. Satin or black silk, size 10*45 cm;
2. Lilac lace with one figured edge, size 8*21 cm;
3. Black satin bias tape, 55 cm;
4. Black elastic band, with one openwork edge, 30 cm;
5. Cotton fabric, 18*15 cm;
6. Lavender, dried flowers, 5-7 g;
7. Cardboard for the pattern, size 10*21 cm;
8. Stationery scissors;
9. Scissors for cutting fabric;
10. Pencil;
11. Threads in the color of the fabric;
12. Needle for handwork;
13. Chalk for cutting on fabric;
14. Tailor's pins;
15. Iron;
16. Household sewing machine.

First you need to prepare a pattern for the future mask. It is best made from thick cardboard. When finished, a medium-sized mask is 20 cm wide and 9.5 cm high.
Using the pattern, you should outline and cut out the details of the mask from satin. There is no need to add seams for processing along external cuts, since the external cut of the product will be processed with bias tape. Before cutting, the satin should be ironed with steam. The outer part of the mask must be solid. On the reverse side, additional allowances can be placed on the mask parts and the cut can be processed at a distance of 6 cm from the side cut. Thanks to this design, you can always remove the sachet from the mask if desired, and the product itself can be easily washed and dried.

Then you need to cut out the finishing part of the mask from lilac lace. Parts made of satin and lace must be pinned together and then swept along the perimeter at a distance of 2 mm from the outer edges. Then the pins must be removed.

On the reverse side of the mask, you should process the cut under the sachet - sew up its ends with a hem seam with a closed cut.

Next, you need to fasten both parts of the mask together, placing them inside out on top of each other and aligning all the cuts.

All layers of the future mask must be connected together along the perimeter with a fine running stitch, after which the pins can be removed.

An elastic band should be attached to the back of the product. After this, you need to sew the edging tape along the outer edge of the mask.

Then the edging must be wrapped on the outside of the product and secured with an auxiliary basting stitch.

Next, you need to lay a finishing stitch along the edge of the bias tape, after which the basting threads can be removed.
When finished, the mask must be carefully ironed from the face and from the inside.

Hello, all needlewomen! There was a slight retreat in my life towards travel and I got a little bored without my sewing machine. Therefore, when I took apart my backpack, I immediately sat down with my assistant. I had a lot of moving this month, where I realized that I was missing an eye mask. Falling asleep on the road is not a difficult task, but I want to do it in comfort, so I will sew this useful thing for myself, and you will meet my master class on how to sew a sleep mask with your own hands.

Sewing it does not require a lot of time and material costs, you can say I sewed it for free - from scraps of fabric and in half an hour. So if you have free time and are new to sewing, you can safely get to work.

What did I need to sew a sleep mask with my own hands?

My sleep mask will be made from Italian lace, I have some beautiful scraps of fabric that were left over from previous projects.

  • fabric lace, dress crepe, knitwear - all 12 cm.
  • elastic band wide 2 cm - 30 cm.
  • chiffon fabric with polka dots for elastic - 7 cm.
  • adhesive fabric - 12 cm.
  • glue web - 10 cm.
  • braid - 80 cm.

How to sew a sleep mask with your own hands. Pattern

It is not necessary to have a mask pattern, everything is done by eye, first I make a rectangle with sides 25*11 cm, then I round the edge and make a notch for the nose in the middle.

1. I cut out 4 parts from three different fabrics alternately. Lace - 1 piece, dress crepe - 2 pieces, knitwear - 1 piece. This amount is necessary to give the mask its shape and to make it opaque.

2. I cut out a rectangle from chiffon with sides 45*7 cm, this is a belt for threading an elastic band.

How to sew a sleep mask with your own hands step by step

1. Now I will show you how to sew a backstitch; it neatly seals the cut inside, preventing it from fraying. It is relevant for very loose fabrics, in this case chiffon. To do this, I bend the pattern for threading the elastic in half along the front side, sewing it back the width of the foot.

Using a safety pin, I turn the belt inside out.

On the wrong side I put another line along the edge; as you can see, there is an open cut with threads inside it.

I turn it out again, this time right side out. Ready! Now you can slide the elastic band inside the case.

2. Preparing layers for the mask. I glue the knitwear on one side with adhesive fabric.

3. I place a lace pattern on top of the dress fabric, then use tailor’s pins to attach the braid around the perimeter of the mask pattern.

4. I sew the braid to the pattern using hand stitches. I take the threads to match the braid.

5. On both sides I attach a belt with an elastic band to the mask pattern with tailor’s pins.

6. I collect all the patterns together in the same sequence as in the photo. In total you should get 4 layers of fabric and elastic.

7. I connect the layers of the mask patterns together along the perimeter with tailor’s pins. I leave a section at the recess for the nose; there is no need to sew it up; through it I will turn the mask right side out.

8. I sew on a sewing machine from the side where the stitching from the braid is visible. I sew the layers of fabric so that the machine stitch extends 1 mm from the hand stitches. deep into the mask.

9. I turn the mask right side out through the left unsewn hole.
